Hello Godwin Families,

I hope that you have had a good week!  Here is the school-wide calendar for next week.  

  • During the week of April 18-22, there were 4 positive Covid-19 cases reported to Godwin.
  • Congratulations to the Godwin Students of the Week for this week! Please see Ms. Cipolla in the front office for your swag!

  • Hide and Lock Safety Drill:  Godwin will have a state and county required hide and lock safety drill sometime this coming week by April 29th.  Hide and lock is the procedure that we would follow if there were an armed threat to the school.  We must conduct this drill at least two times a year.
  • Culture Kick-Back Night:  More Than Just (Godwin’s Black Student Union) is hosting a Culture Kick-Back Night on Thursday, April 28th at 7:00 p.m.  All are welcome to this free event where Godwin students will share their culture through food, clothing, music, other fun activities!
  • Driver’s Education/Junior Parking Lot:  The driver’s ed/junior parking lot will be closed until April 29th.  Students who normally park in this lot will not be able to drive to school during this time.
  • Summer School:  Please see attached brochure for all HCPS Summer School 2022 opportunities and registration information. All courses taken for initial credit will be through Virtual Virginia. Registration and mentor agreements are attached as well for those course offerings.
  • Course Selection for 2022-2023:  Parents of 9-11th graders, please log in to your PowerSchool parent account and review your student’s course selections for next year. While we are still very much working on scheduling, we want to confirm that we have the right class selections. If you need to make a change, please complete this form by May 27th (last day for schedule changes).
  • Final Exams:  Students will take final exams in June.
  • SOL Testing:  SOL & English 9 Writing Performance Task testing will take place in May as previously emailed home in March through PowerSchool Parent/Guardian contact emails & student henricostudents.org emails.  Please see the letters linked below for additional information about this testing.  Godwin’s testing schedule is included in the SOL letters.  If you have any questions regarding testing, please email our Coordinator of Assessment & Remediation, Christy Hudson, at clhudson@henrico.k12.va.us.
  • Yearbook:  Don’t miss out on getting this year’s yearbook! The deadline to order a 2021-22 book is May 10th. Here is the link to make a purchase online; scroll down to online school payments. Once in the system, you will find the yearbook listed as 2021-2022 Publications (including yearbook). Books are distributed in August. https://henricoschools.us/online-services/
  • Military:  
    • Representatives from the United States Army Reserves will be at all lunches on Wednesday, April 27th in the commons.
    • April is the Month of the Military Child;  we thank all of our military families for their service to our country!
  • Sporting Event Protocol:  Thank you for all of your support for Godwin athletics!  Please note that for safety reasons pets are not allowed at sporting events at Godwin.  There has been some confusion on this lately, so we wanted to clarify the protocol for everyone.  Thank you for you for your cooperation!
  • Scholarship Information for Seniors and Senior Families:  We currently have 63 scholarships on the scholarship list on the school counseling website.  Visit the link to apply for scholarships soon!
  • HCPS Special Education Advisory Committee:  The Henrico County SEAC will meet on April 26th at 6 pm at Tucker High School.  Here is a flyer about this meeting.  SEAC Info Session Flyer_April 2022.pdf 
  • Godwin PTSO:   
    • April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month:  On April 25th at 7:00pm in the Godwin auditorium:   2018 Godwin Alum Ava Stokes is a Victim Specialist in the Commonwealth Attorney’s office of Richmond and a survivor of sexual assault.  Ava will be giving a presentation about safety in college, statistics on sexual assault/domestic violence, what to look for in colleges and universities during tours in regards to student safety and ways to protect yourself from danger.  This presentation is open to all students and parents and is sponsored by the Godwin PTSO.

  • Godwin Athletic Association:
    • The Godwin Athletic Association is in need of energetic and dedicated individuals to help make up the 2022-2023 Godwin Athletic Association Board.  We have many positions open.  If you are interested in volunteering and would like more information please contact Allison Unowitz at presidenta@godwinathletics.org.
