MISSION Elko Middle School is a comprehensive middle school in Henrico County Public Schools. We aim to inspire educational excellence among all students in their journey from middle to high school. SCHOOL COUNSELING UPDATES | Elko Learning Lab Learning Lab will start September 23rd! Learning Lab is a chance for students to receive in person tutoring for classes that they are struggling with. Learning Lab will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays either before school (7-8am) or after school (3:30 to 4:30pm). You can only sign-up if invited by your teacher. Please contact your teachers for more information. IB Application – for 6th and 7th Graders The Middle School IB Program at Fairfield Middle School is accepting applications for next year!!! The window will be open Thursday, September 12th and close Monday, October 7th. The link to apply at will be coming soon but until then please see the Timeline, in person Open House on Thursday September 19th, and Video about the Fairfield Middle School IB program. 8th Grade Specialty Center - Applications Specialty Center and ACE center application window is quickly approaching! There is a specialty center or ACE center in Henrico for almost any student. You must give your student permission to apply to specialty centers. You will need to log into the website version of PowerSchool Parent Portal. The form to give permission is located under the menu on the left “Specialty Center” (star icon). Please contact Dr. Swingen if you need help accessing PowerSchool or need your password reset at jkswingen@henrico.k12.va.us If your student is interested in a Specialty Center and you did not make one of the in person information sessions, please plan to attend the virtual session on 10/1 at 6pm. Signs of Suicide Elko School Counseling will be teaching Signs of Suicide lessons to the 8th graders through Health and PE classes starting October 6th. Students will be bringing home a letter from their Health and PE class either Monday or Tuesday. The letter can also be seen here. This is an opt out program. If you would like for your 8th grader to not participate please fill out this bit.ly or contact your student’s school counselor. https://bit.ly/ElkoOptOut Mission for Tomorrow Mission Tomorrow, in partnership with Junior Achievement of Central VA, is Richmond's premier career exploration event for students. This dynamic fair connects around 12,000 eighth graders with over 100 local businesses through interactive activities and discussions. Designed to introduce students to high-demand careers, Mission Tomorrow helps them make informed decisions about their high school coursework and future career paths. Eighth graders from Charles City, Chesterfield, Hanover, Henrico, New Kent, Powhatan, and Richmond will all be participating. We will be taking our 8th graders on Thursday, October 24. Permission slips will be handed out in advisory on Monday and are due back to the school by October 18th. No permission slips will be accepted late! School Counseling Appointments Our School Counselors are happy to meet with parents either in person or over the phone to discuss any concerns or questions they might have.
